X Clan is an American hip hop group from Brooklyn, New York. The group originally consisted of Brother J, Professor X, Paradise the Architect, and Sugar Shaft. The current incarnation of the group features leader Brother J, Master China, Ultraman, ACL, Lord CZA, DJ Fat Jack and Zulu.
Known for its Afrocentrism and militant activism as a member of the Blackwatch movement, X Clan soon gained fame for the controversy its music aroused, though commercial success was sporadic. X Clan made their debut in 1990 with the album To the East, Blackwards, followed by Xodus in 1992 and a temporary break-up.
In 1995, Sugar Shaft died from complications with AIDS. Professor X died from complications of spinal meningitis in 2006. X Clan reunited later that same year with new members, and has since released the albums Return from Mecca in 2007 and Mainstream Outlawz in 2009.
