Wyclef Jeanelle Jean (born 17 October 1969) is a Haitian-born American rapper, record producer and actor. Jean moved to the United States at the age of nine and has spent much of his life there. He first achieved fame as a member of the Fugees. Jean has won three Grammy Awards for his work. When the group disbanded in 1997, Jean pursued a solo career that has since produced seven studio albums.
In 2001, he founded the charitable organisation Yéle Haiti, which performed a variety of charitable works in Haiti between 2005 and 2010. The group closed in 2012 after it generated much controversy. In 2010, Jean filed for candidacy in the 2010 Haitian presidential election, but was ruled ineligible to stand as he had not met the requirement to have been a resident in Haiti for five years.
