Walking with a Panther is the third album by American rapper LL Cool J, released in 1989 on Def Jam Recordings. While his previous album Bigger and Deffer was produced with the assistance of production team The L.A. Posse, Dwayne Simon was the only member of the group willing to work on Walking with a Panther as the other members refused to work on the album after Def Jam refused to pay them a higher salary. Walking with a Panther was thus primarily produced by LL Cool J and Dwayne Simon, with additional production by Rick Rubin and The Bomb Squad.
The album peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album's singles "Going Back to Cali", "I'm That Type of Guy", "Jingling Baby", "Big Ole Butt" and "One Shot at Love" also achieved chart success. However, the album was met with a mixed response from the hip hop community, who were unfavorable of the several love ballads featured on the album.
