Todd Anthony Shaw (born 28 April 1966), better known by his stage name Too $hort, is an American rapper, record producer and actor from Oakland, California. He is best known for his songs "The Ghetto" and "Blow the Whistle". Too Short is credited as being one of the pioneer rappers of West Coast hip hop. Many of his lyrics are about pimping, drug use and other sexually-related or explicit/vulgar topics.
After releasing three albums on local independent label 75 Girls Records and Tapes in the mid-1980s, Too $hort signed to Jive Records and released seven consecutive Platinum-selling albums in the late-1980s and early-1990s. After the release of his 1996 album Gettin' It (Album Number Ten), $hort embarked on a hiatus and his subsequent albums released after his return in 1999 have not sold as well as his early work.
