Andre Manuel, better known by his stage name The Unknown DJ, is an American DJ and record producer from Los Angeles, California. Born in Detroit, Manuel moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s and adopted his mysterious persona when nobody in the area knew who he was. In 1984, he founded the label Techno Hop Records, and Manuel released several solo singles on the label throughout the 1980s.
In 1986, Manuel signed Ice-T to Techno Hop, and produced his breakthrough song, "6 in the Mornin'". The following year, Manuel discovered King Tee and produced his first two singles. Manuel provided production on the first three albums by gangsta rap group Compton's Most Wanted, in addition to serving as executive producer on all of them. Manuel's final production credit came on the 1999 album Crime Stories by G'Fellas.
