Biography[]
The Posse NFX were an American hip hop group formed in Boston, Massachusetts. The roots of The Posse NFX's (also known as Da Posse NFX) members King Shab (born Sondro Castro), Mike Dee (born Charles Michael Johnson) and Little Smitty (born Stephen M. Smith) go back a few years when they performed as Gangstarr Posse. Not to be confused with Gang Starr of which Dee was originally paired with the late Guru and at the time, the former went by DJ 1, 2 B Down. He was with Guru for one single, 1987's "Believe Dat!". Following that, Dee split from Guru and formed Gangstarr Posse with Shab, Smitty, and another member, Jamiel Alexis. Castro was born and raised in Spanish Harlem, and at an early age, he became a scholar of hip hop. He was also responsible for the Eyenside Movement. As Gangstarr Posse, they released three singles during 1988 and 1989: "Young Girls", "Read the Label", and "Swinga". On the latter two singles, they were known as GSP. Before they reinvented themselves as The Posse NFX, Alexis left the group. He cut and released a 1990 solo single titled "Lily Of The Streets" b/w "Mickey the Dope", both sides of which Dee, credited as DJ 1, 2 B Down co-produced with Alexis. Shab also illustrated the back cover of the single. The remaining members under their new name signed with a triple deal with the labels Critique, B-Down, and BMG, which brought forth their debut and only album, Black Or Ya White, also in 1990. Afterwards, Dee edited the track, "Call One Me" by Janet Jackson featuring Nelly, included on the 2006 various artists compilation, Top Secret! - August 2006. As Thuggy Dixwell, Castro appeared on the tracks "Hands Up" with Jaysaun, "Hollback" with Slaine, and "Smooth Joint" by himself, from the 2005 compilation, The Mixtape, by Special Teamz. As Thugg Dixx, he appeared on the songs, "Redrum" with Krumbsnatcha and "Turmoil" with GC and Gen. Steel from Myster DL's 2005 album, The Calm Before The Storm. As General Dixx, he was featured on the tracks "Spare Change", "Let Them Know", "Have It All", "Mercy Me", "Blood On The Wall" with Ashy Nuxx, "Ben Affleck Must Die", "Super Lyrical" with what may either Little Smitty who could had gone simply by Smitty or another rapper called Smitty, and "Like Me" from XL's 2007 album, Spare Change. Under his real name, Castro was heard on his solo track, "Stompin N*ggas Out" featuring Ashy Knuxx from the Banga Brothas Entertainment label's 2009 compilation, Certified Bangas: The Album.
