The Afros was an American hip hop group from New York City, New York. The group consisted of rappers Hurricane and Kool Tee, and DJ Kippy-O. Hurricane and Jam Master Jay created the concept of The Afros after watching the film Hollywood Shuffle (1987) together. The group's name was a reference to Afro-Americans and they wore afro wigs that they believed represented black power.
The Afros were affiliated with Run-D.M.C. through Jam Master Jay and appeared in the 1989 music video for "Pause". Their only studio album, Kickin' Afrolistics, was released in 1990. The Afros had started to record a second album but it was never released.[1]
