Vernon Johnson (born 1970), better known by his stage name Tha Chill, is an American rapper and record producer from Compton, California. He is best known for being a co-founder of Compton's Most Wanted, alongside frontman MC Eiht. During his childhood, Chill dropped out of high school and joined with neighborhood friend MC Eiht to form the group.
During Compton's Most Wanted first period, Chill contributed musically only on the group's debut album, It's a Compton Thang in 1990, as he was imprisoned during the group's following two albums. He contributed to the group's 2000 reunion album, Represent, and their 2006 final album, Music to Gang Bang.
Tha Chill began producing records in the late 1990s and went on to produce songs on albums including The Hard Way by 213, The Shining by RBX, Red Gone Wild: Thee Album by Redman, and multiple MC Eiht albums. Tha Chill released his debut solo album, Chillafornia, in 2012. In 2016, he released the album We Got Now and Next as a member of the group Diirty OGz.
