Simple E (born Erica Williams in California) is an American former rap recording artist, singer, and lyricist. Signing a deal with Fox Records, her debut (and only) album, Colouz uz Sound, was released on October 11, 1994. The single from the album, "Play My Funk", was also included on the soundtrack to that year's film, Sugar Hill. Another song, "East Coast/West Coast", featured fellow west coast rapper, Spice 1. D'wayne Wiggins from Tony!Toni!Tone`!, Mista Lawnge from Black Sheep, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest all either produced or executive produced her album. A talented but overlooked and underrated femcee, she was one of those who could rap and sing equally well. Despite that, her career would turn out to be shorter than it should'd been. The last recording she appeared on to date was the track, "It's Not About You", from Richie Rich's Seasoned Veteran album.
