William Richard Leonard Roberts-Ross II (born January 28, 1973), better known by his stage name Rick Ross, is an American rapper, entrepreneur and record executive from Carol City, Florida. Before becoming a rapper, he worked as a correctional officer. His stage name is taken from the name of former drug kingpin "Freeway" Rick Ross, to whom he has no connection. He had his first hit in late 2005, Hustling and his next hit, Push it in 2006. Port to Miami in July 2006 which has been certified Platinum by April 2019.
In 2009, he founded the record label Maybach Music Group, on which he released his studio albums Deeper Than Rap in 2009, Teflon Don in 2010, God Forgives, I Don't in 2012, and Mastermind in 2014. Ross was also the first artist signed to Diddy's management company Ciroc Entertainment. He was named by MTV in early 2012 as the Hottest MC in the Game.
