Blowout Comb (1994) |
Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) is the debut studio album by American hip hop group Digable Planets, released in February 9, 1993 on Pendulum and Elektra Records. Recording sessions took place at Palatial Sound Doctor Studio & Resort in New Jersey from May 1992 to January 1993. It was produced entirely by group member Butterfly, who utilises jazz samples throughout the album. The tone of the album is less overtly political than its sucessor Blowout Comb, but still touches on issues such as abortion rights and the drug abuses of jazz musicians.
The album was certified Gold by the RIAA the same year of its release. The single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)" became a hit in 1993, breaking into the Top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The following year, it won the group the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
