Quik Is the Name is the debut studio album by American hip hop and producer DJ Quik, released in January 15, 1991 on Profile Records. Recording sessions took place at Westlake Recording Studios in Los Angeles from August to November 1990, with a production budget of $30,000. The production was mainly handled by DJ Quik along with his executive producers Courtney Branch, Tracy Kendrick and Greg Jessie. It features guest appearances by Hi-C, AMG and 2nd II None.
The album peaked at #64 on the Billboard 200, and #17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It received rave reviews from critics, who praised Quik's non-gangsta lyrics and production work. Quik Is the Name spawned the three hit singles, "Quik Is the Name", "Born and Raised in Compton" and "Tonite", which both of the songs charted on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, with the latter also reaching #49 on the Billboard Hot 100.
