"Check Your Head" (1992)

1989. The album contains production from the Dust Brothers, and was initially recorded in Matt Dike's (Delicious Vinyl Founder) Apartment. Rather than the vocals, the album is almost entirely composed of samples. The list of samples is so huge, the group ended up having to fight lawsuits over it until 2015.

The album did not match the sales of their previous album, Licensed to Ill, and eventually Capitol stopped all promotion of the album due the the legal fees. Even with all that, it's popularity grew over time and has been praised and recognized as a ground-breaking achievement. Thanks to the help of the highly variation of the album sonically and lyrically, Paul's Boutique has taken place as a favorite in the lists of critics and fans alike. The album to this day constantly makes rankings near the tops of many "Best Albums" lists in varying genres of publications. It is often called the "Sgt. Pepper's" of hip hop.

On the day of January 27th, 1999, the album was certified double platinum by the RIAA.
