Kool G Rap & DJ Polo was an American hip hop duo from New York City, New York. The duo was formed when rapper Kool G Rap was looking for a DJ and – through Eric B. – met DJ Polo, who was looking for a rapper. Marley Marl, who knew Polo, allowed the two to use his studio to record a demo, which resulted in the song "It's a Demo". Marley Marl was so impressed that he instantly inducted Kool G Rap and DJ Polo into his group, the Juice Crew. The duo released three studio albums from 1989 to 1992 before splitting in 1993 so Kool G Rap could pursue a solo career.
