All Samples Cleared! (1993) |
I Need a Haircut is the third studio album by American rapper Biz Markie. It was released on August 27, 1991 through Cold Chillin' Records and Warner Bros. Records. Recording sessions took place at BMV Studios in Elizabeth, New Jersey, from May 1990 to May 1991. Production was entirely handled by Biz Markie himself with co-production from Cutmaster Cool V. It features guest appearances from Capital T, Diamond Shell, Felle Fel and Backspin.
The album gained infamy for its song "Alone Again", which resulted in a lawsuit from Gilbert O'Sullivan, whose song "Alone Again (Naturally)" was sampled without authorization. The court ruled that sampling without permission can qualify as copyright infringement. The judgment changed the hip hop music industry, as any future music sampling had to be pre-approved by the original copyright owners to avoid a lawsuit. Biz later poked fun at his misfortunes by titling his next album All Samples Cleared!.
The album was a minor success, making it to #113 on the Billboard 200 and #44 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. I Need a Haircut released the singles: "What Comes Around Goes Around", "T.S.R. (Toilet Stool Rap)" and "Busy Doing Nuthin'".
