House of Pain was an American hip hop group from New York that released three albums in the 1990s before lead rapper Everlast left to pursue a solo career. The group's name is a reference to the novel The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G. Wells. The group is best known for their 1992 hit single "Jump Around", which reached high chart positions in United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The group broke up in 1996 but reformed temporarily in 2010 and 2011, after the trio had been members of supergroup La Coka Nostra for several years.

Everlast teamed up with DJ Lethal and high school friend Danny Boy to form House of Pain in 1991, and the group signed to Tommy Boy Records. Their 1992 self-titled debut album went multi-platinum, mainly due to the success of "Jump Around". Fashioning themselves as rowdy Irish-American hooligans, they toured with various hip hop and alternative rock bands after their breakthrough. Their second album, Same as It Ever Was, was released in 1994 and went gold despite minimal airplay and no major hits. On the release date of their third album, Truth Crushed to Earth Shall Rise Again, in 1996, Everlast announced his departure from the group and House of Pain disassembled.

After the group split, each member continued their seperate careers. Danny Boy founded an art company, while DJ Lethal became a member of nu metal band Limp Bizkit. Everlast achieved multi-platinum solo fame, and now makes predominantly blues and acoustic inspired music. When Danny Boy founded the supergroup La Coka Nostra in early 2006, it reunited him with Everlast and DJ Lethal for the first time since House of Pain's split. The group performed at three festivals in 2010 and 2011.  In 2012 however, Everlast left the group to tend to his oldest daughter's medical issues.  Born in 2010, she suffers from cystic fibrosis, for which there is currently no cure.
