Helter Skelter is the second studio album by American rapper The D.O.C., released in January 23, 1996 on Giant and Warner Bros. Records. Recording sessions took place at D.A.R.P. Studios in Atlanta, Georgia from September 1994 to August 1995. Production was entirely handled by Erotic D and The D.O.C.. It includes guest appearances by Jamal, Passion, Voodoo Einstein, Mz. Allen, MC Breed, T-Double, DFC and Eddie Griffin. It was an attempt at making a comeback following the car crash which severely damaged his vocal chords. The album was widely ignored, and has even been discredited by The D.O.C. himself.
The title and concept behind this album were originally developed by Dr. Dre as a collaborative effort between him and Ice Cube, titled Heltah Skeltah. At that time however, The D.O.C. had become disillusioned with Dr. Dre and Death Row Records, having received no payment for his work ghostwriting at Death Row. In late 1994, The D.O.C. left Death Row and headed to Atlanta, Georgia, taking with him lyrics he had written for Heltah Skeltah, and kept the name for his own album to spite Dre. The lyrics were particularly inspired by the writings of conspiracy theorist Milton William Cooper.
The album peaked at #30 on the Billboard 200, and #5 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It received mediocre reviews from critics. Helter Skelter released the singles: "Return of Da Livin' Dead" and "4 My Doggz".
