Jermaine Dupri Mauldin (born September 23, 1972) is an American record producer and rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. Dupri first rose to prominence after serving as the mentors of teen duo Kris Kross and produced all three of their albums. He established his label So So Def Recordings in 1993. He met Da Brat during an episode of Yo! MTV Raps and signed her to his label to release the 1994 album Funkdafied, which went platinum.

In 1998, Dupri released his debut studio album, Life in 1472, was released to critical acclaim and commercial success, in addition to being nominated for Best Rap Album at the 1999 Grammy Awards. His second album, Instructions, was released to a more moderate reception. In addition to his hip hop career, Dupri has produced songs for Mariah Carey, Destiny's Child and Usher.
