Deltron 3030 is the debut self-titled studio album by American Hip hop supergroup Deltron 3030 (consists of Del the Funky Homosapien, Dan the Automator and DJ Kid Koala). It was released on May 23, 2000 under 75 Ark and distributed by Tommy Boy Records. Recording sessions took place at The Glue Factory in San Francisco, California from April 1999 to February 2000. Production was entirely handled by Dan the Automator. It features guest appearances by Prince Paul, Mr. Lif, Beans, Damon Albarn, MC Paul Barman, Peanut Butter Wolf, Verna Brown, P. Wingerter, Mark Ramos-Nishita, Hafdis Huld and Sean Lennon. It is a rap opera concept album set in a dystopian year 3030.
The album's story casts Del in the role of Deltron Zero, a disillusioned mech soldier and interplanetary computer prodigy rebelling against a 31-century New World Order. In a world where evil oligarchs suppress both human rights and hip-hop, Del fights rap battles against a series of foes, becoming Galactic Rhyme Federation Champion. During the events of the song "Memory Loss", Deltron is captured by the New World Order, and subsequently has his memories wiped, thus rendering his plight entirely pointless and ultimately forgotten.
Del the Funky Homosapien's lyrics veer from serious social commentary to humor to epic sci-fi battles, while the producer Dan the Automator creates an eerie and dense atmosphere.
Deltron 3030 debuted at #194 on the US Billboard 200, #90 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, #13 on the Heatseekers Albums chart and #43 on the Top Independent Albums chart. Deltron 3030 spawned the singles: "Virus", "Positive Contact" and "Mastermind".
