David Franklin Reeves Jr. (born October 3, 1960), known professionally as Davy DMX and Davy D, is an American musician, record producer and DJ from Queens, New York. He began his career as a guitarist in the band Orange Krush alongside bassist Larry Smith and drummer Trevor Gale. Orange Krush recorded backing tracks for Run-D.M.C., Lovebug Starski and Sweet G. After the band separated, Reeves worked with Kurtis Blow as a DJ and guitarist, providing significant contributions to "If I Ruled the World" and "The Breaks". Reeves released two solo records on Tuff City around this period: "One for the Treble (Fresh)" (1984) and "The DMX Will Rock" (1985).
Reeves signed to Def Jam Recordings and released the album Davy's Ride (1987) featuring Hurricane. He produced the majority of Run-D.M.C.'s album Tougher Than Leather (1988). Reeves' later work was confined to production, writing and instrumentation credits on releases by other artists. Tuff City released a compilation album of his solo work, F-F-F-Fresh, without Reeves' knowledge in 1995.
