Lavell William Crump (born April 11, 1974), better known by his stage name David Banner, is an American rapper and record producer from Jackson, Mississippi. He graduated from Southern University and pursued a master's of education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He began his music career as a member of the hip hop duo, Crooked Lettaz, before going solo in 2000 with his debut release, Them Firewater Boyz.
In 2003, Banner signed to Universal Records and released four albums on the label, during which he experienced his greatest commercial success. He released a collaboration album with record producer 9th Wonder, Death of a Pop Star, on his label, Big Face Entertainment, in 2010. His latest album, #TheGodBox, was released independently in 2017.
