Earl Simmons (December 18, 1970 – April 9, 2021), better known by his stage name DMX, was an American rapper and actor. In 1999, DMX released his best-selling album ...And Then There Was X, which featured the hit single "Party Up (Up in Here)". He acted in films such as Belly, Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and Last Hour. In 2003, DMX published a book of his memoirs entitled E.A.R.L: The Autobiography of DMX. In 2006, he starred in the reality television series DMX: Soul of a Man, which was primarily aired on the BET cable television network.
DMX was well known for his violent and overall dark theme in his lyrics, presented in a confronting vocal delivery. DMX sold over thirty million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling hip hop artists of all time.
DMX had struggles with drug addiction and had run in with the law.
On April 2, 2021, DMX was rushed to White Plains Hospital after suffering from an overdose and heart attack. On April 5, 2021, his family held a prayer vigils for DMX outside the hospital as he was fighting for his life with no brain activity and was in a vegetative state.
On April 9, reliable news outlets reported he died at the age of 50. The official cause of death is yet to be revealed, but he suffered a drug overdose, heart attack, and COVID-19 simultaneously.[1][2] His family released a statement that DMX had been a warrior until the very end. Many celebrities and athletes sent condolences to the late rapper's family and friends.
