The DMC World DJ Championships is a DJ competition hosted by Disco Mix Club (DMC), which has been held annually since 1985 excluding 1993. The event has become renowned as the ultimate DJ battle, and many world-renowned turntablists have entered the event. Originally intended to be a DJ mixing battle, DJ Cheese introduced scratching in his routine in 1986 and changed the course of future DMC battles.
The DJs are allowed a period of six minutes to perform. Each country with a DMC governing body holds a national competition and the winner of each country competes in the world championship. World champions receive an automatic entrance to the following year's championship. DJ Rena of Japan is the youngest ever world champion at 12-years-old.
