Christopher Edward Martin (born March 21, 1966), better known by his stage name DJ Premier, is an American record producer and DJ. Premier was the instrumental half of the hip hop duo Gang Starr - alongside rapper Guru - and forms half of the hip hop duo PRhyme with Royce da 5'9".

Born in Houston and raised in Prairie View, Texas, and Brooklyn, New York, during his teen years, Premier met Guru when the latter was searching for a DJ to join Gang Starr in 1989. The duo had six acclaimed studio albums from 1989 to 2003, before splitting in 2004. His membership as the production side of Gang Starr established DJ Premier as one of the most respected and in demand producers in the New York hip hop scene. Premier's style of production epitomizes the New York sound of his earlier peers, and features samples from jazz, funk and soul artists. DJ Premier is often referred to as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time.
