Jeffrey Allen Townes (born 22 January 1965), better known by his stage name DJ Jazzy Jeff, is an American hip hop DJ, record producer, turntablist and actor who is best known for his early career with Will Smith as DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. The two received the first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance in 1989 for their song "Parents Just Don't Understand", though their most successful single was "Summertime", which earned the group their second Grammy and peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After the duo broke up on good terms, Jeff became a prominent R&B, soul and neo soul record producer and solo artist. He has released a number of solo albums, which feature his production and turntable work while other artists perform vocals. DJ Jazzy Jeff has a regular web series entitled "Vinyl Destination" that documents his various DJing travels.
