Artis Leon Ivey Jr. (born August 1, 1963 - September 28 2022), better known by his stage name Coolio, was an American rapper, actor, record producer and chef. He began his career as a member of the electro hip hop groups Sound Master Crew and Nu-Skool in the late 1980s before he joined WC and the Maad Circle in 1991. Ivey achieved mainstream success in the mid-1990s with his albums It Takes a Thief, Gangsta's Paradise and My Soul. He is best known for his Grammy Award-winning single "Gangsta's Paradise", which appeared on his album of the same name and the soundtrack of the movie Dangerous Minds. He is also known for the singles "Fantastic Voyage", "C U When U Get There" and "1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin' New)".

Coolio, otherwise known as Artis Leon Ivey Jr, passed away on 28 September 2022 aged 59, with his cause of death was from a drug overdose.
