Champion Sound is an album by American hip hop duo Jaylib (J Dilla and Madlib), released in 2003 on Stones Throw Records. Half of the songs are produced by Madlib and feature vocals by J Dilla, whereas the other half are produced by J Dilla and feature vocals by Madlib. The album was the first of the Madlib duo collaboration albums made during the 2000s.
Jaylib was created when J Rocc of the Beat Junkies gave a CD of unused J Dilla instrumental tracks to Madlib. Madlib then recorded his own vocals over these beats and labelled them as "Jaylib", without the intention of releasing them. Stones Throw Records, the label he was signed to, placed one of these recordings as the B-side to a promo 12" Madlib single under the name Jaylib, which was eventually heard by Dilla. The pair recorded the album in seperate cities, with Madlib in Oxnard, California, and Dilla in Detroit, Michigan, by sending recordings back and forth to each other. The two met each other in person once during this process.
It peaked at #92 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album was reissued in 2007, with alternate beats for the songs "The Red" and "No Games" due to sample issues. It is the only album the two would release together.
