Wilbur Bass (born May 31, 1969), known professionally as Blaq Poet (formerly The Poet), is an American rapper from Queens, New York. He is a former member of the hip hop groups Screwball and PHD.
Bass debuted in 1986 as a featured artist on the single "The Wopp Sensation" by Rockwell Noel, with whom he collaborated on three additional singles from 1987 to 1989. He formed the duo PHD with DJ Hot Day and released the album, Without Warning (1991), and the extended play, EP (1996), on Tuff City Records. Bass co-founded Screwball in 1996 and released two albums as a member of the group: Y2K: The Album (2000) and Loyalty (2001). He embarked on a solo career with the release of Rewind: Deja Screww in 2005. Bass signed with DJ Premier's Year Round Incorporated record label and released Tha Blaqprint in 2009.
