Blackout! 2 (2009) |
Blackout! is the debut album by American hip hop duo Method Man & Redman, released in September 28, 1999 on Def Jam Recordings. Recording sessions were held at Mirror Image Times Square, Soundtrack Studios, Electric Lady Studios, 36 Chambers and Rockin' Reel Studios in New York City and Enterprise Recording Studios and Encore Studios in Los Angeles from August 1998 to June 1999. It is the first full-length release by Method Man and Redman after many collaborations together. The album continued a string of highly successful Def Jam releases in the late 1990s.
The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 254,000 copies. Both rappers enjoyed perhaps the height of their popularity as a tandem after the success of the album and its three charting singles. Music videos were made for three songs from the album, which were popular mainstays on MTV and BET. The album was certified platinum in 2000 and has since sold 1,575,000 copies. The sequel to the album, Blackout! 2, was released ten years later.
