Markel Scott (born August 26, 1996), better known by his stage name Bishop Nehru, is an American rapper and record producer from Rcokland County, New York. He chose his stage name from a combination of Tupac Shakur's character in the movie Juice, noting that the character of Bishop inspired him "to go out and get mine, you've got to earn respect", and Nehru is taken from the former prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, who worked closely with legendary peacemaker Gandhi.
Bishop Nehru's debut mixtape, Nehruvia, was released in 2012 when he was sixteen years old. The 13-song project features him rapping over instrumental versions of songs produced by DJ Premier, Madlib, MF DOOM and J Dilla, as well as original productions, including one made by Bishop himself. The following year, he released the mixtape strictlyFLOWz, which was presented by New York radio personality Peter Rosenberg and English DJ Semtex. In August 2013, it was announced that Bishop Nehru and MF DOOM would collaborate on a project, which was later released as NehruvianDOOM in 2014.
In 2014, Bishop Nehru was among the first signees to Nas' label Mass Appeal Records. Nas confirmed via his Twitter that he will serve as executive producer on Bishop Nehru's forthcoming album.
