Back from Hell is the fifth studio album by American hip hop group Run-D.M.C., released in October 16, 1990 on Profile Records. Recording sessions took place at Chung King House of Metal, Inc. and Studio 900 in New York City from May 1989 to March 1990. Production was handled entirely by Run-D.M.C. and Jam Master Jay themselves with co-production from Frank Inglese, Glen E. Friedman, Russell Simmons, Stanley Brown, Davy D, Larry Smith and David Reeves. It marks the end of a long streak of critically and commercially successful albums by the group.
Back from Hell peaked at #81 on the Billboard 200, and #16 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The album has sold over 300,000 copies in the United States. It received mediocre reviews from critics. Back from Hell spawned the singles: "The Ave.", "What's It All About", "Faces" and "Pause", which all three of the songs were charted, the song "Pause" peaked at #51 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, #11 on the Hot Rap Songs charts and #50 on the Hot Dance/Maxi-Singles Sales chart, "What's It All About" debuted at #24 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, #4 on the Hot Rap Singles chart and #48 on the UK Singles chart and "Faces" peaked at #57 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #13 on the Hot Rap Singles chart.
