Background[]
Antidote was originally recorded as a promotional single for Travis Scott's debut album Rodeo, having being recorded in only one day, with it's first verse and hook being recorded in one take according to Travis's Clique TV interview[1]. The original demo version is said to have different adlibbing and a slightly rougher take, however this version hasn't leaked yet and is considered as a grail by the Travis Scott Tracker editors. After it was recorded, it was teased in a video with Metro Boomin, despite the fact that he has no production on the song[2]. Shortly after being recorded, Antidote was premiered at Travis Scott's JMBLYA. 2015 set before being played backstage[3]. On June 21, 2015, Antidote as independently released through SoundCloud, originally as a promotional single, with Travis stating, "This is for the real fans; the real ragers! This is some vibes for the summer. This isn’t on Rodeo… it’s coming soon.". Despite this, the song would later get released on Rodeo as track nine. Later on July 29, 2015, it was digitally distributed and released as Rodeo's second single. On September 3, 2015, a teaser for the Antidote music video would be released. Fifteen days later on September 18, the music video would finally release featuring models Yaris Sanchez and Ayisha Diaz, alongside rapper Rich Hill making a cameo.
Reception[]
Antidote was immediately a hit, with it reaching #16 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts alongside it landing #1 on the US Rhythmic Chart[4][5]. It was certified Gold and Platinum on December 11, 2015 through the RIAA[6]. Antidote later went 2x Platinum almost a year later on December 12, 2016, with it later reaching 3x Platinum almost four months later on April 14, 2017[6]. It finally reached 4x Platinum on January 31, 2019 and has since either not been updated or hasn't reached any other milestone[6].
