Alternative hip hop is a sub-genre of hip hop music that encompasses the wide range of styles of hip hop that have not become identified as mainstream. The musicians classed as alternative are ones that do not conform to the traditional stereotypes of rap, such as gangsta, bass, hardcore, pop or party rap.
