Above the Rim is the soundtrack to the 1994 film of the same name, released on Death Row Records and Interscope Records in 1994. Suge Knight served as executive producer alongside former Capitol Records executive Louis Burrell, while Dr. Dre served a supervising producer. The album is a mix of hip hop and R&B songs.
It was the first soundtrack album and third album overall released by Death Row, and became an unexpected success. The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and peaked on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart at the #1 position, where it stayed for ten nonconsecutive weeks.
