"6 in the Mornin'" is a song by Ice-T, released in 1986 on Techno Hop Records. Produced by Compton's Most Wanted associate The Unknown DJ, it was first released as the B-side of "Dog 'N the Wax (Ya Don't Quit-Part II)". It is considered to be one of the defining tracks of the gangsta rap genre. The song later appeared on Ice-T's 1987 debut album Rhyme Pays with the name changed to "6 'N the Morning".
Ice-T was inspired to write the song after hearing "P.S.K. What Does It Mean?" by Schoolly D, which is considered the first gangsta rap song. "6 in the Mornin'" begins with police knocking at Ice-T's door at 6 a.m., with the rest of the song dealing with evading the police, crime sprees, jail sentences and sex.
"Midnight", from Ice-T's 1991 album O.G. Original Gangster, is a prequel of this song. "Midnight" ends with the lyric "Looked at my watch, it was six in the morning."
