3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life of... is the debut studio album by American hip hop group Arrested Development. It was released in March 24, 1992 via Chrysalis Records. Recording sessions took place at Bosstown Recording Studios, UWM Studios and Twenty-Five Sixty Studios in Atlanta and at Trax 32 Recording Studio in Mequan, WI from April 1991 to January 1992. Production was handled entirely by group member Speech, who is also the main performer on the album. 3 Years stood in stark contrast to the gangsta rap music that ruled the hip hop charts the year of its release, with its focus on spirituality, peace, and love. The album's title refers to the length of time it took Arrested Development to get a record contract.
The album peaked at #7 on the Billboard 200, #3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #1 on the Heatseekers charts in the United States. 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life of... released the singles: "People Everyday", "Tennesse" and "Mr. Wendal". The album was certified platinum by Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) for seling over 70,000 copies. 3 Years, 5 Months & 2 Days in the Life of... was released to widespread critical acclaim from music critics.
